Petrides Events presents two unique shows dedicated to Markos Vamvakaris.

Petros Kouloumis, Thodoris Mermigas and Aspasia Stratigou collaborate with 6 great musicians where they will sing with special mastery some of the most important songs written by the creator.

Markos Vamvakaris (1905-1972) was indisputably the “Patriarch” of Rebetikos, the “Genarch” of the bouzouki, the “Tree” that produces the branches of popular music. Markos Vamvakaris changed the course and flow of Greek song as a whole. His herculean feat lies in the fact that, with his talent, he established the bouzouki as the basic instrument of Folk Song and from 1933 onwards reduced it to a symbol of modern Hellenism, just as the Parthenon is the symbol of ancient Hellenism. He was the most important exponent of the Piraeus school of rebetiko that flourished in the 1930s and is mainly based on the bouzouki, baglama and guitar. The bottom line, however, is one: that the genius, authentic, popular creator (composer, lyricist, singer, instrumentalist) with his inspiration and talent, completed a grand project, which is still the great platform, on it moves and creates, for 90 years, a whole world, which deals with what we call and mean Urban Folk Song. Great songs will be heard such as the emblematic Fragosyriani, Mikros Aravoniastika, Ta matokladas sou lampoun, Atakti, Ta two sou rakoi vane, A dude in Botaniko, etc.
