For the first time in Cyprus, Top Music and Julia Vertova Media proudly present to you the heirs of the legendary ‘Smokie’ group.
Heirs not only of music and spirit, but also of talent.
On November 24, join us at Pattihio theatre in Limassol for an exclusive musical event – ‘Spirit of Smokie: Alan Barton Memorial Concert’ featuring Dean Alan Barton. To honour a life of his father – the great and honoured musician, who would have celebrated in September 2023 his 70th birthday, Dean Barton has organised this memorial concert

From ‘Smokie’ to ‘Spirit of Smokie’
Originating in the early sixties in Bradford, England, school friends Ron Kelly, Chris Norman, Alan Silson and Terry Uttley formed their first line-up. After several record contracts and name changes, the name ‘Smokie’ was chosen.
In 1986, the group played their last concert, and Chris Norman began a successful solo career. This paved the way for a new look for ‘Smokie’ and new original members featuring a talented vocalist Alan Barton, whose voice and drive to succeed have re-established Smokie’s name as an internationally touring and recording band.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck in March 1995, when Alan Barton was killed in a motorway accident in Kolong, Germany. After the tragic death, Alan Silson left to later form his own band with members of ‘Spirit of Smokie’, including original Ron Kelly, Andy Whelan and Graham Kearns.
In the years prior to his death, Alan Barton was working on material for his second solo album, which was never completed due to his untimely death. Alan’s son Dean Barton decided to finish the project together with Andy Whelan and Graham Kearns. In March 2008 a Memorial Concert fronted by Dean Barton was held, and just like that ‘Spirit of Smokie’ was born.
Dean’s undeniable “Smokie” voice and on-stage charisma completed what is now an established world class band. For the past fifteen years, Dean and his outstanding musicians have worked hard to re-establish the great sound of the original band.
